This past weekend, over 50 students from the WBHS speech and debate team competed at Flying L. After a full day of rounds, postings, meeting up with old friends, and competing, our students reflected on their first tournament of the 2017-2018 season.
Isabel McCann received 2nd place in informative speaking with her info being centered around adoption and how children are raised. Along with Baby Julian, Isabel managed to shock and intrigue all those who saw her performance that day.
In dramatic performance, Alexandra Benedit competed with her humorous interpretation piece focused on beauty queens. Adapting a book about beauty queens trying to survive on a stranded island into an HI is not an easy task, however, Alexandra managed to turn her piece into a hilarious and sassy performance.
Aside from these two wonderful women, West Broward had many more successes. Dylan Hall placed 7th in his congress chamber, Ethan Massa placed 9th in Lincoln-Douglas debate out of a pool of 27 people, and Bobby Cuba placed 10th in Lincoln-Douglas debate. In informative speaking Sarah Tiktin placed 9th and Conrad Awve placed 10th. In varsity extemporaneous speaking, extemp captain, Sabrina Lyn, placed 10th out of 55 competitors. Our novices also had major successes at Flying L. In congress, Priyanka Venkat placed 5th in her chamber, Nandika Regatti placed 7th, and and Ingrid Mattig placed 9th. These three women in congress started their novice year in a fantastic way! In novice extemporaneous speaking Oladapo Suleiman placed 9th! In novice Lincoln Douglas debate Isabella Castillo placed 10th. Our novice's success is clearly represents their own talent and our squad captain's commitment to their novices.
