4This summer, the West Broward Speech and Debate team had 14 students participate in various speech & debate camps to sharpen their skills in each of their respective events. Parker Harrison attended session 1 of the Champion Briefs Institute at Nova Southeastern University for the event humorous interpretation (HI). 

Alexandra Benedit, Noah Macdonald, Leah Bolitho, and Jackie Sanchez attended session 3 of the Champion Briefs institute at Nova Southeastern University. Noah and Leah both studied Program Oral Interpretatin (POI), while Alexandra studied HI and Jackie studied Extemporaneous Speaking. All 5 of these students excelled throughout the two weeks of camp in their respective events.

Amanda Ciocca attended the Victory Briefs Institute at Swarthmore College in Philadelphia. Amanda studied Lincoln-Douglas debate (LD) while meeting people from all over the country. 

Ethan Massa attended the National Symposium for Debate (NSD) Lincoln Douglas camp at the University of Minnesota from June 25th to July 15th. For a total of 3 weeks, he worked consistently to enhance his skills in LD. 

While they were attending CBI, NSD, and VBI, 6 other students from our team went to the American Speech and Debate Foundation (ASDF) debate camp held at Nova High School. Abigail Charles-Pierre and Ashley Nechyba competed in Public Forum (PF) as a team. Alex Rodriguez and Alyssa Cavazos also studied PF as a team at ASDF. Sabrina Lyn attended ASDF for Extemporaneous Speaking and Uzair Qureshi attended for Humorous Interpretation. Ben Molko attended ASDF and studied Lincoln-Douglas debate (LD). These 7 students worked non-stop to improve in their own events.

After 2 weeks of hard work, West Broward had many successes. At the camp tournament for session 3 of CBI, Alexandra made it to the final round and performed her Humorous Interpretation piece in the showcase. Also at this tournament, Jackie championed in extemporaneous speaking. At ASDF, Sabrina made it to the semi-final round or top 3 of extemporaneous speaking. Alex and Alyssa made it to the final round in PF and also performed in the showcase.
